On January 26, 2014, Wisin shared the artwork for the single, announcing that the song would be released on February 17, 2014. Despite the previous announcements, Yandel of Wisin & Yandel had not participated in the song.[2] In an interview with People en Español, Wisin talked about the collaboration:

On February 18, 2014, "Adrenalina" was released by Sony Music Latin for digital download as the second single from Wisin's second studio album, El Regreso del Sobreviviente (2014).[4][5][6] The song was sent to international radio stations on February 24, 2014 and was released for streaming the following day.[7][8][9] It became the Univision's 2014 World Cup song and was included as the third track on El Regreso del Sobreviviente, released March 18, 2014.[5][6] A Spanglish version of the song was recorded under the same title by Martin featuring Lopez and Wisin; it was released for digital download and streaming by Sony Music Latin on February 25, 2014.[10][11]

"Adrenalina" became a big hit, following its release.[21] The song debuted at number 12 on Billboard's Hot Latin Songs chart on March 15, 2014,[35] becoming Wisin's 4th entry,[36] Lopez's 12th,[37] and Martin's 39th.[38] The following week it climbed to its peak at number two, being held off the top spot by "Odio" (2014) by Romeo Santos featuring Drake,[39] while giving Wisin his second, Lopez her fifth, and Martin his 22nd top 10 hit. "Adrenalina" spent a total of 26 weeks on the chart and marked Wisin's highest-charting and longest running single at the time, surpassing "Que Viva La Vida" (2013). It also ties "No Me Ames" (1999) and "Ven a Bailar" (2011) as Lopez's longest-charting hits in her career.[36][37][38] "Adrenalina" spent 10 weeks atop the US Latin Rhythm Airplay chart and reached the summit of both the US Latin Digital Song Sales and Latin Airplay charts.[40][41][42] On Latin Pop Airplay, it peaked at number two, being held off the top spot by "Odio".[43] "Adrenalina" debuted and peaked at number 94 on the US Billboard Hot 100 on March 22, 2014, becoming Wisin's first entry, Lopez's 24th, and Martin's 16th.[44][45][46] The song also debuted and peaked at number 17 on Billboard's Hot Rap Songs chart, becoming both Wisin and Martin's first entry, and Lopez's second.[47][48][49]

In Spain, "Adrenalina" debuted at number 28 on March 2, 2014, and subsequently peaked at number three on the chart issue dated March 16, 2014. The song spent 52 weeks on the chart and was certified double platinum by the Productores de Música de España (PROMUSICAE), for track-equivalent sales of over 80,000 units in the country.[10][50] In Mexico, the track peaked at number four and was certified platinum by the Asociación Mexicana de Productores de Fonogramas y Videogramas (AMPROFON), for sales of over 60,000 units.[51]

On February 10, 2014, Wisin and Martin shared photos of themselves along with Dominican director Jessy Terrero, Ed Coriano, and Henry Quintero on the set of filming "Adrenalina" music video.[52][53][54] Martin and Lopez continued sharing photos and videos from the set on Instagram, which included sensual scenes depicting the two singers.[55][56] In an interview with PopCrush, Lopez talked about recording the video:

The video, which was filmed in Miami, Florida and directed by Terrero,[7] was released on March 3, 2014.[58] It features Martin and Lopez dancing sensually together, while Martin seductively bit Lopez's ear in a scene. The same as Lopez's several other music videos, "Adrenalina" visual includes street chases, leather and the lack of clothing, the underground atmosphere, and a final clandestine party, while according to E! Online, Martin's appearance "gives it a different touch" and "triggers the sexual tension of the video". Idolator's Mike Wass described the two as "the most beautiful 40-somethings on earth", praising Martin's "pretty" look and Lopez's "famous" buttocks that "steal the show".[20][59] As of April 2022, the video has received over 870 million views on YouTube.[58] It was nominated for Video of the Year at the 27th Premio Lo Nuestro.[29] A similar music video was also filmed for the Spanglish version and was uploaded to Martin's YouTube channel on March 11, 2014.[60]

On March 29, 2014, Martin gave his first live performance of "Adrenalina" on the second season's finale of The Voice: Ahla Sawt.[61] On July 17, 2014, the trio performed the song at the 11th Annual Premios Juventud.[62] Later that year, Wisin performed the track at the 9th Annual Premios 40 Principales in December.[63] At the 2015 iHeartRadio Fiesta Latina, Lopez brought out Wisin during her performance and sang the song with him.[64] Wisin also performed the single along with his other hits during the 57th Viña del Mar International Song Festival on February 27, 2016.[25] "Adrenalina" was included on the set lists for Martin's the Live in Mexico tour, the One World Tour, and the Ricky Martin en Concierto, with the guest appearance of Wisin in several dates.[65][66][67] On December 1, 2018, Wisin & Yandel invited Martin as a guest to their Como Antes Tour and the three singers performed "Fiebre" and "Adrenalina" together at the José Miguel Agrelot Coliseum in San Juan, Puerto Rico. During the performance, Martin wore a black T-shirt with the flag of Puerto Rico drawn by his children, to raise funds for helping people and reconstructing houses, following Hurricane Maria.[68][69][70] On February 24, 2019, Wisin & Yandel performed "Adrenalina" along with their other hits during the 60th Viña del Mar International Song Festival.[71] In the same year, Wisin and his team performed a medley of "Aullando", "Me niego", "Escápate Conmigo", and "Adrenalina" on the first season of American singing competition television series La Voz.[72]

The song received generally positive reviews from music critics who praised the liveliness of the track and noted the consistency with other songs performed by Martin. It peaked at number five on the US Hot Latin Songs and became Martin's 23rd top-ten single on the chart. An accompanying music video, directed by Kátia Lund and Lívia Gama of Bossa Nova Films, was shot in Rio de Janeiro. It features Martin singing and dancing on the beach accompanied by around 100 other people. Martin performed the song on several occasions including at the 2014 Latin Billboard Music Awards and on season eighteen of the Dancing with the Stars US series.

On April 25, 2014, it was announced that Hundred Proof Club, Think Famous Productions, Akela Family and JDK Entertainment were suing Sony Music and King for fraud in the Sony and FIFA's SuperSong competition. The lawsuit claimed that the competition was rigged and that King, who co-wrote "Vida" was always going to win, cheating the other entrants out of their chance of winning the competition. Although the contest was open to applicants worldwide, King had a contractual agreement and Sony apparently asked King to enter the song "Vida": Sony allegedly pressured the plaintiffs to release King from his contract so that he would be eligible to win, in return for compensation.[22]

Melissa Redman of Renowned for Sound gave the song three and half stars out of five and wrote that "the track is everything you would expect from Ricky Martin and a single for a global sports event."[1] She also stated that although the song is not "groundbreaking" it is "a lively and exuberant track that people are bound to bop away to".[1] Redman concluded that it is better than Pitbull's "We Are One (Ole Ola)", which serves as the official song of the tournament.[1] Mike Wass of website Idolator wrote, "there's something to be said for consistency and Ricky sure knows how to knock out a summery smash with generic Spanglish lyrics that probably sound pretty inspiring after a couple of Coronas."[25] "Vida" received nomination for a Start-Party song at the 2014 Premios Tu Mundo held on August 21, 2014.[26] In 2022, Noelia Bertol from Cadena Dial ranked it as one of the "10 Ricky Martin songs that brighten up summers".[27]

Following Martin's performance of the song at the 2014 Latin Billboard Music Awards "Vida" entered at number four on the US Latin Digital Songs chart after selling 6000 copies in its first week. Subsequently, the single debuted at number 10 on the US Hot Latin Songs; it became Martin's 23rd top 10 single on the chart.[28] It peaked at number five on the latter chart.[29] It was more successful on the US Latin Pop Songs chart where it peaked at number four. "Vida" debuted at number 20 on the Spanish Singles Chart. In its fourth week the single reached its peak of number five.[30] Additionally, it peaked at number 12 in the Dominican Republic[31] and number 16 in Mexico, a pop charts part of Monitor Latino.[32] It was less successful in Australia and South Korea where it peaked at number 75[33] and 146 respectively.[34]

Martin performed "Vida" for first time at the 2014 Chinese Music Awards on April 23, 2014, where he also sang his 2013 single "Come with Me".[36] He performed the song again on April 24 at the 2014 Billboard Latin Music Awards. A writer from Billboard described it as a "vibrant, colorful performance".[37] On April 28, the singer performed "Vida" on a season eighteen episode of the American dance show competition Dancing with the Stars; he was accompanied by the show's Pro Dancers.[38] Martin performed the single on The Ellen DeGeneres Show on May 2[39] while three days later, on May 5, he performed the song on The Queen Latifah Show.[40] He also performed the song on May 18, at the 2014 Billboard Music Awards.[41] On November 14 it was part of Martin's performance at the opening ceremony of the 22nd Central American and Caribbean Games.[42] 2ff7e9595c
